Why did we start developing Workforces.AI?

The idea of developing an application for shift planning doesn’t sound like a fresh one. Even so, there are a lot of opportunities in some specific niche areas, in solving some more specific industry flows and or integrations, also do not forget that technologies do not standstill. Technologies evolve. Gig workers became real heroes of our time. For our team, it had started to be obvious with the virus lockdown. The team analyzed what gig workers and their business owners said about the problems they had in the lockdown period. Both converged into issues like shift planning and emergency replacements in real life. That’s how we came to the idea of the staff scheduling application.

At the same time, we had an issue in our company with the DevOps duty planning of developers. The process was not perfect. We spent much time in manual planning with excel. We needed to find some modern way to plan our duties. I started by searching for suitable software.

The surprise was in the fact that most shift planning applications are just beautiful variations of excel. They are not intellectual. We spend time onboarding, figuring out how to work with the app, add our staff, and schedule, but in the end, we manually arrange people. Without optimization, without automatic bits of advice on how I should better create a schedule. The coolest thing that most of the shift planning applications have is labor cost calculation, it simplifies the process. However, it was not what we were looking for. Applications haven’t resolved our issue with not perfect duty planning process just conceived new tasks.

At this moment, the two tasks converged into one. The issue to create a convenient shift planning tool for us, for support, and for gig workers. That’s how Workforces.AI was born.

Our application from the very beginning has focused on full automatization. The ideal state we strive for is when the user just says that he or she needs a schedule and gets it with the best staff mutch and at a lower cost.

To achieve this, the system must learn. Must know what means an ideal shift, which staff better for which tasks, and how to save money for people. Such an application must have intelligence, Artificial Intelligence. Besides, onboarding should be as fast as possible.
